Acupuncture is an energetic, powerful medical practice used for over 5000 years to effectively restore and maintain health and vitality.

Whether you are experiencing challenges with physical pain, dis-ease or emotional stress, Chinese medicine sees these as blockages of the flow of our vital energy (Qi) through the acupuncture channels (meridians) in our body. Understanding the principals of Yin & Yang, as well as the 5 Elements, your acupuncturist works to release blockages and stimulate your body’s innate ability to self- regulate and heal so that you can move on to be the best person you can.

Acupuncture is successful in treating:   addictions . allergies . cardiovascular problems . digestive difficulties . headaches . pain . psycho-emotional discomfort . reproductive challenges . respiratory conditions . sleep difficulty . stress . and weight management, among others.

Our experience confirms that acute issues benefit from more frequent acupuncture treatments over a shorter period of time, while chronic issues benefit from less frequent acupuncture treatments over a longer period of time.

JoseLo Gutierrez, M.Ac, L.Ac licensed acupuncturist, has been utilizing Oriental medicine to care for clients since 1998. He combines his knowledge of acupuncture and manual therapies such as Cupping, Guasha, Moxibustion, Shiatsu, Tuina, Acupressure, and Thai massage techniques to best suit the needs of his clients. His dream of working in a community acupuncture clinic led to the opening of City Acupuncture Circle in 2012. His work as a therapist stems from an understanding of the natural capacity of the human body to heal itself, and his style reflects an appreciation of the balancing properties of these ancient medical practices.

He currently divides his time living between DC and Mexico, where he teaches Chinese Medicine when he’s not treating patients in DC. He is in town one week a month. Look up our schedule to check his availability.

JoseLo graduated from the Swedish Institute School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in NYC, where he studied Classical Acupuncture under the tutelage of Master Jeffrey Yuen, a world-renowned Taoist priest and Doctor of the Jade Purity Tradition. Classical Acupuncture is an ancient health care tradition, which sees healing as encompassing physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual re-alignment.

He studied massage therapy at AKS Massage School in Northern VA, where he later worked as a guest teacher. He was also trained in Thai massage at the Kata Institute in Phuket, Thailand, and apprenticed with Chinese doctors in Taiwan, Colombia and Ecuador learning different Oriental manual medicine therapies, Tai Chi Chuan and acupuncture. His background in Psychology and Physical Therapy serves to bridge Eastern and Western approaches to one’s dynamic self.

JoseLo enjoys practicing Tai Chi Chuan, Chi Kong, and Yoga, traveling, hiking, camping with his family and playing with his 4 children. Originally from Colombia, and a lover of languages, JoseLo is fluent in Spanish and enjoys practicing Italian, Portuguese, French and Mandarin.

Seth Shamon, M.Ac., L.Ac. licensed acupuncturist, graduated from Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute) with his masters degree in acupuncture in 2015. At MUIH, his studies focused on Five Element acupuncture, a powerful & highly individualized tradition that treats the patient at the deepest root of the dis-ease to bring one into harmony and ease within oneself.

Seth uses acupuncture, Asian bodywork, and Chinese herbs to treat acute and chronic conditions. His specialties include sports medicine, the treatment of acute and chronic pain, headaches and migraines, and mental/emotional disharmonies.

His interest in Chinese medicine began while living in Portland, OR in 2011 after his undergraduate studies in philosophy and physics at American University. He was inspired by the depth and power of Chinese medicine in its ability to heal chronic and recalcitrant illnesses. In witnessing Chinese medicine’s blend of philosophy and science for the purpose of deep transformation and healing, Seth answered the call to pursue a lifetime of dedication to studying and sharing the medicine.

In addition to his master’s degree from MUIH, Seth has studied the teachings of several of the most prominent contemporary teachers of acupuncture: Dr. Tan, Master Tung, and Jeffrey Yuen. Seth also incorporates in his practice the style and teachings of JoseLo Gutierrez, with whom he has studied and worked with at City Acupuncture for the past two years.

Seth is currently continuing his studies in Chinese herbal medicine at MUIH. In his spare time, Seth enjoys cycling, visiting hot springs and forests, traveling, cooking, and studying/practicing the Dao.

I was always afraid of acupuncture until I met Joselo. During a time when I lost mobility of my neck and I was ready to try anything, Joselo gave me an acupuncture treatment and in one session my pain was gone and I had movement again. He saves me when I have these physical breakdowns. He truly is a talent and gifted in this area as I have tried others and it does not compare. Wish the clinic was in NYC :-)

Started being treated by JoseLo about two months ago for problems with not sleeping well and neck pain. This was the first time I have had acupuncture and I can now say with confidence that it works! I have not slept better in my entire life and my neck feels a lot better. JoseLo has been very knowledgeable and helpful in helping me understand my issues and how through acupuncture I can finally find relief. I highly recommend him to anyone dealing with issues related to their health.

I have been coming to City Acupuncture for a few weeks now with great results. My knee pain has gone from nearly unbearable to almost gone in three sessions. A welcoming and stress free environment helps to ease any anxiety. The price is on a sliding scale from $20 to $50 per session, whatever you can afford, which is a huge plus. Highly recommended!
